- Concluded discussion of "Stranger in the Village".

TO DO: 
Be prepared to respond to both of the following questions in an in-class discussion:

1) From the beginning, Hurston startles us: "I remember the very day that I became colored." Why does Hurston insist that one becomes colored? What happened on that day to make her so?

2) Each section of Hurston's essay explores a different possible identity, some based on skin color, others emphasizing history, culture, or gender. What does Hurston accomplish by such an approach?
