Kane - 1st Period

We had a busy day today. First, we had silent reading for about 15 minutes. Then, we turned-in our character study homework. Then we talked about it as a whole group. Then we broke-up into small groups and talked about the racist language in Huck Finn. We came back together and shared our conversations as a whole group. James made a very good point when he said that, "The language in the book reflects who are we and where we came from." Then, Kane talked about "What does our language mean?" and how kids in the hallway use the N-word so frequently. Our homework is to read Huck Finn, pages 36-47 and finish our vocabulary worksheet. Also, our rough draft is due on Tuesday.

Kane - 2nd Period

Today was a slower pace. First, we read one chapter aloud from To Kill A Mockingbird. Then we took the third segment test, covering chapters 12-16. After that we had a group discussion regarding the role of Jem and Scout's Aunt Alexandria. Homework for tonight is to read chapters 17 and 18.
