What are Graphic Organizers?

Graphic organizers help form a visual picture of information in our minds and allow us to see undiscovered patterns and relationships. In other words, they are used to help us or organize the thoughts that already in our minds. A "mind map" is a common example of a graphic organizer.

Informative Writing

The goal of informative writing is not to present your opinion, but to inform or educate your reader on a given topic.

Your essay might:

  • explain something most readers do not know
  • compare and contrast opposing viewpoints
  • analyze a cause/effect relationship




Narrative Writing

Narrative writing is telling a story. 

Imaginative narratives might be:

  • an invented story about an invented person or place
  • an invented story about a real person or place

Non-fiction narratives might be:

  • biographies
  • auto-biographies
  • personal essays


Persuasive Writing
