1. This week, you will be preparing a scene to perform from Romeo and Juliet. Performances will be on Thursday and Friday.

2. Scene selection (choose one for your group to perform):

    -Opening scene/feud fight: "I bite my thumb at you, sir"
    -Masquerade ball/love at first sight: "And palm to palm is holy palmer's kiss"
    -Balcony Scene: "Oh, the inconstant moon!"
    -Mercutio/Tybalt/Romeo duel: "Tis a scratch!" "Tomorrow you shall find me a grave man."
    -Juliet's fight with her parents/Friar gives her the potion: "Hang thee, young baggage!" 
    -Tragic ending: "Oh, happy dagger!"

3. In groups, sketch a rough outline of your scene

1. Housekeeping: 
    -the graded discussion sheets were entered incorrectly into the gradebook. They have been fixed. 

2. Discuss Romeo + Juliet:

    -What do you like? Dislike?
    -If Shakespeare were a playwrite in the 1990s instead of the 1590s, would he be okay with this version of the play?
    -How about the 1960s?

2. CWF Shakespeare edition #2   5.24.13

    Re-write one scene from Romeo and Juliet, but set in modern times. Keep the same characters, names and storyline, but add in modern devices (such as guns        

     instead of swords, and cars instead of steeds). The dialogue can be modern, but still in rhyming couplets! Montague Capulet Mercutio Tybalt. . .

    My only love sprung from my only hate!

    Too early seen unknown, and known too late!
